JugJugg Jeeyo Copyright Case: Dharma Productions to show the film to Ranchi Court before release

Jugjugg Jeeyo is dealing with a legal issue just days before the film’s release. Writer Vishal A Singh has accused the makers of plagiarising the story of his book Bunny Rani.

In response to the allegations, it has been reported that Jugjugg Jeeyo will be screened for Ranchi Court before it is released on the big screen. Directed by Raj Mehta the film stars Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani star in the lead roles, with Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor playing pivotal roles.

According to the reports, a court in Ranchi has ordered that the film be screened. Another report also said that after the film is screened, judge M C Jha will hear the arguments and decide whether or not the film violates the Copyright Act.

Following the trailer’s release in May, a man named Vishal A. Singh filed plagiarism charges against Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Vishal, who is reportedly a screenwriter, claimed that KJo’s Dharma Productions used his story as Jugjugg Jeeyo.

“Had registered a story.. #BunnyRani with @swaindiaorg in January 2020. I had officially mailed @DharmaMovies in February 2020 for an opportunity to co-produce with them. I even got a reply from them. And they have taken my story.. and made #JugJuggJeeyo. Not fair @karanjohar”, he wrote in a series of tweets.

Dharma Productions has yet to respond to the allegations. Meanwhile, the cast of Jugjugg Jeeyo is hard at work trying to promote the film. Varun, Kiara, Anil, and Neetu arrived in Delhi on Sunday and were spotted enjoying street food and interacting with fans. The film also paved the way for the ‘Nach Punjaban’ challenge, in which several celebrities posted videos of themselves performing the song’s hook step.
