The veteran lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar has remained always in controversy when it comes to expressing his views on religion and belief. He has been an atheist who does not believe in any religion. Recently, he was back in the news for his tweet against Azaan. In his recent tweet, he has asked to stop using loudspeakers for Azaan. He said Azaan is an integral part of Islamic faith but the gadget like loudspeaker is not.
He tweeted about it the following that has created controversy on the social media:
In India for almost 50 yrs Azaan on the loud speak was HARAAM Then it became HaLAAL n so halaal that there is no end to it but there should be an end to it Azaan is fine but loud speaker does cause of discomfort for others I hope that atleast this time they will do it themselves

While tweeting about the same, he said that one should not use loudspeaker as it causes discomfort to others. He said that it was banned earlier so how could it be now allowed and used by all. He ended by saying that he hoped the people would give up the use of loudspeakers soon on their own.
Earlier, Akhtar was also seen supporting the demand to shut down all the mosques in the country during the lockdown time. He said even the mosques at Madina and Makkah have been shut down. He later appealed the Muslims to offer Namaz at home.
