It was this Tuesday when we heard about MAMI’s new Chairperson. As Kiran Rao stepped down from this key position after she was holding the position since 2014. But many found the allocation of this position for Deepika Padukone a bit surprising considering her credibility and evolution in the Industry in perspective of understanding the issues and her work on doing some work on mental issues and similar other things. So, many are wondering as to what made the lady get this position or in other words, does she really deserve this position when we had better talents as compared to Deepika?
The fact of the matter, people seems to be finding the reason behind this decision. As per media reports, she is an icon and has good brand value in the entertainment industry. Also, she has an excellent financial backup to stand anywhere. This will help in churning good money for MAMI. The decision was taken on 17th Jan 2019 and was declared two days before. Besides the lady, she is supported a strong team including the Anupam Chopra, who is the festival director while the other board members include Zoya Akhtar, Rohan Sippy, Vikramaditya Motwane, Siddharth Roy Kapur, creative director Smriti Kiran, Vishal Bhardwaj, and Kaustabh Dhavse who happens to be the Joint Sec Gov Of Maha.
Also, the reports suggested that the decision of making her as the Chairperson was unanimous and thus no favouritism has been done in this regard. When she was given the offer being the member of the board, she said that she is more than happy to discharge her duty as a chairperson and convinced her that she is suitable while all other had their own reservations of not accepting this position. Deepika has given her commitment for five long years and would, therefore, remain till 2024. She would keep the first year as her learning phase and then continue working and contributing in MAMI. On the work side, the leggy lass is gearing up a biopic made on the acid attacker called Chapak. Meghna Gulzar will be directing this movie, who has been famous for her film Raazi.
