Inox R City in Trouble Again; Khuda Gawah Show Cancelled

In the post-pandemic era, there has been a resurgence of interest in re-releases and special screenings of classic films, leading to many shows being sold out or enjoying high occupancy rates. However, when moviegoers travel across the city only to find out that a show has been canceled, frustration is inevitable. This unfortunate scenario unfolded on Saturday, June 14, during a special screening of Khuda Gawah (1992), featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, at Mumbai’s Inox R City Ghatkopar.
The screening was slated for 5:30 PM in the 160-seat auditorium of Screen 7. Just before the show was set to begin, management informed attendees that the screening had been canceled due to the content not being delivered to the cinema. Reports indicate that the show had nearly 90% occupancy, with around 140-145 patrons present, leading to significant unrest among the audience.
As per Bollywood Hungama, Sriram Jay, who detailed his experience: “I had booked tickets for Khuda Gawah in advance. At the entrance, my QR code wouldn’t scan despite several attempts. I was informed that the show was canceled and replaced with Final Destination: Bloodlines. The manager explained that the film’s content hadn’t arrived, and he was surprised I hadn’t been notified about the cancellation.”
Sriram expressed his disappointment, saying, “I was excited to watch Khuda Gawah. With almost 90% occupancy, some patrons were upset and refused to leave the booking counter. This is incredibly unprofessional; it ruined our weekend!”
Many patrons had traveled from distant areas like Andheri and Panvel. Sriram empathized with them, noting that someone contacted BookMyShow, which confirmed they had not been informed of the cancellation.
The theater offered refunds or allowed viewers to watch another film. Sriram recounted, “I paid Rs. 300 for two tickets. The management allowed me to select another movie, Materialists, without charging the fare difference, which was appreciated. However, modern cinemas often treat these incidents casually. Simply refunding money doesn’t address the loss of experience.”
