Indian 2 1st Weekend Box Office collection: The Kamal Haasan’s film witnesses a drop on Sunday

Indian 2, the vigilante film directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan, has experienced a gradual decline in box office collections since its release last Friday. According to Sacnilk, the sequel to the cult film from 1996 earned ₹15 crore on its first Sunday. Out of this total, the Tamil version accounted for ₹11 crore, the Telugu version (Bharateeyudu 2) garnered ₹2.8 crore, while the Hindi version (Hindustani 2) collected only ₹1.3 crore.This Sunday collection represents a further decline from the previous day, Saturday (day 2), when Indian 2 earned ₹13.7 crore in Tamil, ₹3.2 crore in Telugu, and ₹1.3 crore in Hindi, totaling ₹18.2 crore. However, the film experienced a significant drop from its opening day, which amounted to ₹25.6 crore (₹16.5 crore in Tamil, ₹7.9 crore in Telugu, and ₹1.2 crore in Hindi).
Interestingly, the Hindi version of Indian 2 showed a marginal rise in collections on Saturday and maintained a steady trajectory on Sunday. It faces competition from Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru remake, Sarfira, starring Akshay Kumar, in the Hindi market.Indian 2 marks a comeback for director Shankar, who faced a setback after the passing of writer Sujatha in 2008. Shankar and Sujatha had delivered several successful films in the Tamil industry, with Enthiran, starring Rajinkanth and Aishwarya Rai, being a notable peak in their collaboration. Other successful films include Indian, Mudhalvan, Boys, and Shivaji: The Boss.Shankar co-wrote the script for Indian 2 with writers B Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar.
The film features Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy, affectionately known as ‘Indian Thatha’ by fans, who fights corruption using the ancient martial art practice of ‘varma kalai.’Indian 2 is a joint production of Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies. The film also stars Siddharth, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, and the late Nedumudi Venu. The music for the original film was composed by A R Rahman, while Anirudh composed the music for the sequel.
