Plot

The film is set up at the backdrop of a pre-independence era when a girl from a royal family Roop played by Alia Bhatt falls in love with a man of odd jobs called Zafar played by Varun Dhawan. This brings the turmoil amongst the royal house allowing their love to pass through different trials and tribulation as the boy comes from a different clan and financial status. So, what really goes in the period drama is interesting to catch.

Review

It is not often an easy task to make a period drama, as the makers have to create the old sets resembling the age and films like Kalank adds further challenge as it involves the story of royal families. Thus to have mighty sets showcasing the royal family in the pre-independence era is certainly a daunting task. However, the makers in Kalank have left no stone unturned to create a compelling story backed with all the resources that can make the film look real. The mighty sets with all flora and fauns vouch for this fact. The story though has a similar love triangle but the kind of twists and roller coaster stuff the makers have added seemed interesting and gives an edge to Kalank.

The film has all the elements which a typical B Town audience would like to see, it has love, betray, revenge, action and good music with several songs worthy to catch thanks to the incredible dance moves of the Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri and also Alia competing her in some of the songs makes a worthy watch. Now, talking about the performances, the film another interesting aspect is its star cast, which is rich and of higher star value. For the first time, we have seen Sanjay and Madhuri Dixit coming after almost two decades, which makes things interesting. Both have done a fabulous job.

Alia with the growing number of films in her career is becoming competent and far talented than we have expected. In her role of Roop, she was fabulous, her dancing skills too have improved as we can see her taking hard lessons on Indian classical dance. She was equally good in her acting skills as well, while similar is the story of Varun Dhawan, he is incredible in the role of Zafar. The humble and robust Zafar played by Varun is excellent in many ways, right from the tough look to the fierce action he has carried. Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur have also done a decent job.

The film has also scored well on other fronts including screenplay, editing, music, and photography. The makers have worked hard to keep things in balance, though there are certain boring moments with no humor or entertainment value but soon these vanish out and give the real picture of the film.

Kalank The Last Word

The film has everything that a B Town movie fan would wish for. Right from the ensemble star cast, to the best music, performances, and a gripping story, it has everything that can be enjoyed catching up a film.
