Here’s why Anurag Kashyap refused Karan Johar’s offer for blockbuster Kal Ho Na Ho!!

Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Na Ho holds a special place in everyone’s heart as every generation can relate to the movie. From heartbreaks to patch-ups, the story explores it all. This 2003 blockbuster was directed by Nikhil Advani, and it featured SRK, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Jaya Bachchan, Sushma Seth, Reema Lagoo, Lillete Dubey, Delnaaz Irani, Sonali Bendre and many more actors in pivotal roles. The romantic drama movie was the highest-grossing film of the year and even won two National Film Awards.

The filmmaker had approached Anurag Kashyap for this film. But Anurag refused his offer. Karan Johar ended up writing the script for Kal Ho Na Ho himself. Here’s the story behind it.

In 2007, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Anurag Kashyap revealed that a number of big producers, like Karan Johar, had approached him to work with for Kal Ho Naa Ho.
“I far too received the huge gives following Satya. Karan Johar questioned me to script Kal Ho Naa Ho, I was asked to publish Tere Naam, Jism. I refused. I refused Kal Ho Naa Ho since Karan Johar is the king of romance and I am a realist. I did not want to have issues following using up a job. It wasn’t individual, but Karan did not choose my refusal as well perfectly,” he told.

However, Karan Johar performed a supporting role in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Anurag and Karan also teamed up with Dibakar Banerjee and Zoya Akhtar for Bombay Talkies.
