HBD Hema Malini: Once rejected from movies, how the actress-politician got the title of Bollywood’s Dream Girl
Actress Hema Malini, who is popularly known as Bollywood’s Dream Girl, turns 74 today. Hema had entered Hindi cinema at a very young age of 14. Yes, you read it right!
The actress debuted in Bollywood with her 1968 film Sapno Ka Saudagar. However, she portrayed a role of dancer in a Telugu film ‘Tapandava Vanvasan,’ which released in 1961. Today, she is not just an inspiring senior actress, she is also a politician.
Hema Malini marked her presence in the industry with her debut Bollywood film
Well, not every Bollywood actor has been lucky to gain recognition just with their debut movie. Yeah, some do. But most of them end up facing failure.
Let us tell you, Hema’s debut movie, ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar,’ came out in 1968. In this film, she was paired with legendary actor Raj Kapoor. After this, there was simply no turning back for her. The actress then went on to work in several movies.
Sholay brought her immense popularity
Hema wooed the audience with her impeccable acting talent, in every film she did. But, Sholay brought her immense popularity. After this film, her growing relationship with his Sholay co-star Dharmendra came to light. They got married in 1980, and He is now her husband.

Hema Malini loved Dharmendra, but her father disliked him
The actress’ father didn’t want her to meet Dharmendra, He was against their relationship. After the news about the duo’s love affair came to light, Hema was always accompanied by one of her family members to shoot. Her father used to be there on the sets with Hema, most of the time.
Despite difficulties, the couple got married in 1980 and the fans of Hema & Dharmendra were overjoyed.
Becoming a ‘Dream Girl’
The veteran actress has given several hits in Hindi Cinema. While she played talkative & entertaining Basanti in Sholay, her dual role in Seeta Aur Geeta showed her versatility.
And how can you forget Pooja from Baghban, she played a doting wife in the film & we just loved her character.
So how was the actress named Dream Girl? Thanks to her 1977 movie with the same title, She is today identified as ‘Dream Girl Of Bollywood’.
Not one or two, Hema played five different characters in the movie. This film went on to become a major hit & viewers also loved the chemistry between Dharmendra & Hema. Since then, she has been called B-town’s Dream Girl.
Hema Malini joined BJP in 2004, starting her political career. Since then, the actress has been away from Bollywood.
