Plot :

The film is based on a war fought between the Marathas and Afghan King Ahmad Shah Abdali in the 18th Century. The Marathas as we know were among the powerful regime at that time, but their happiness seemed short as soon as Afghan King Ahmad Shah Abdali attacked the Maratha Peshwa and then comes Sadashiv Rao Bhau who is sent out to stop him at any cost. This led the third Battle of Panipat fought between the two armies.

Review

The film comes packed with a layered narrative, which deals with the complex politics found in that era along with the intricate workings of war strategies and the significance of forming alliances. At the same time, it forms a strong love story between Shadashivrao Bhau and Parvati Bai. So, amidst the war, we also see the chemistry between the two. However, the run time reaching to three hours it becomes a tedious watch. Now, talking about the performances, Kriti has put excellent efforts in playing this character. Arjun Kapoor seemed sincere and shines during the war sequences than the romantic scenes. On the other side, Sanjay Dutt manages to channelize the menacing act.

The film’s ensemble cast of Mohnish Bahl, Padmini Kohlapure, Zeenat Aman (special appearance) has added great entertainment value to the milieu. The makers have put a huge budget in putting across a lavish sets to make every sequence worthy and realistic. Right from the costume designs to the production design, the music and choreography all seemed to have gone well. And do not forge the compelling war sequences. The other elements like cinematography, the visual effects, and the sound design seemed to have gone seamlessly offering the most authentic setting to this period film.

Panipat The Last Word

The film has delved nicely when it comes to dealing with an important chapter of our Indian History covering the war drama so well. It has somewhere able to showcase unshakeable bravery, and courage that was put forth with the strong principles of the Marathas.
