Hansal Mehta Assures Fans: Netflix to Correct Hinglish Version of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders – “Absurd Not to Have the Original Version”

Netflix India is facing a wave of criticism from viewers and filmmaker Hansal Mehta regarding the lack of the original Hinglish version of the investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, the film debuted on the streaming platform on November 8, 2024, but was made available only in a Hindi-dubbed format.
Discontent was swiftly voiced on X (formerly Twitter), with one user questioning the choice to exclude the original version, saying, “Hi @mehtahansal, why isn’t @NetflixIndia offering the Hinglish version of #TheBuckinghamMurders? Hearing all the Brits speak in Hindi feels so artificial… sigh!”In response to the outcry, director Hansal Mehta shared his frustration, tweeting, “I just saw that, Sethu. It’s absurd that the film’s original version isn’t available on the platform. I’ve alerted @NetflixIndia about it. Hopefully, this gets sorted out soon.

In the wake of the backlash, Netflix India issued a clarification, stating that the absence of the Hinglish version was due to a technical glitch and assured users that the issue would be resolved shortly. Mehta later posted a screenshot of Netflix’s statement on X, informing viewers that the original language version would be uploaded within hours. “Thanks for your patience. I understand how frustrating it can be to watch a dubbed version.

Apologies,” he added. The Buckingham Murders is a crime drama set in London, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan as a detective on the trail of a missing young boy. The film’s innovative use of Hinglish, blending English and Hindi dialogue, was an intentional creative decision to capture the multicultural essence of contemporary London. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen. It also marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s debut as a producer and is a collaborative project between Hansal Mehta and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures.
