Guneet Monga Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap to Present Manoj Bajpayee’s Jugnuma (The Fable); Directed by Raam Reddy, Set for September 12 Theatrical Release

Get ready for a magical cinematic experience as the highly anticipated film Jugnuma (English title: The Fable) starring multiple National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee prepares for its theatrical release on September 12. Directed by Raam Reddy, this magical-realist drama marks his second feature after the critically acclaimed Kannada debut Thithi (2016).Jugnuma has already garnered international acclaim, premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival and winning Best Film at Leeds International Film Festival, along with a Special Jury Prize at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The film will now make its India theatrical debut with two powerhouse names joining as Executive Producers: Academy Award winner Guneet Monga Kapoor and renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
Set in the late 1980s against the backdrop of the Indian Himalayas, Jugnuma follows Dev (Manoj Bajpayee), who discovers mysteriously burnt trees on his vast fruit orchard estate. As more fires break out, he confronts unsettling truths about himself and his family. The cast also features Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, Tillotama Shome, Hiral Sidhu, and Awan Pookot.Anurag Kashyap praised the film, saying, “I had loved Raam’s Thithi for its authenticity, and with Jugnuma, he’s created a timeless piece of cinema.” Kashyap, who worked with Bajpayee on Gangs of Wasseypur, described Bajpayee’s performance as “unlike anything the audience has seen before—restrained, enigmatic, and deeply moving.”
He added, “Jugnuma is a deeply humane and magical film, and I’m proud to present it to Indian audiences.”Guneet Monga Kapoor shared her admiration, calling the film a “modern classic in the making.” She highlighted that the movie was shot on film, lending it a timeless visual beauty that demands to be experienced on the big screen.With Hindi dialogues by Varun Grover, Jugnuma will be distributed across India by Flip Films. Director Raam Reddy described the project as a deeply personal journey inspired by memory, folklore, and history.
