From Mallika Dua to Kusha Kapila, social media influencers who made it to big screens

Social media influencers have grown in prominence in recent years, and they are also gaining significant breakthroughs in Bollywood. Due to their hard work, talent, and online recognition, certain social media influencers were given the opportunity to make their Bollywood debut.

Influencers are already well-known, and their skill on social media has allowed them to amass a loyal following over time. Social media influencers are seeking ways to parlay their online celebrity into on-screen prominence as the digital world expands by the day. While some have already made their mark on the big screen, others are preparing for their big break, which will be a watershed moment in their careers. Viraj Gehlani, a social media influencer, was recently featured in the trailer for Vicky Kaushal’s, Bhumi Pednekar’s, and Kiara Advani’s flick Govinda Naam Mera, making his Bollywood debut.

Mallika Dua

Mallika Dua is a stand-up comedian, actress, and writer from India. She has appeared in films such as Indoo Ki Jawani (2020), Zero (2018), Namaste England (2018), and Hindi Medium (2017). Dua moved to Mumbai in August 2016 to pursue a full-time performing career. In 2017, she launched her own YouTube channel. She has appeared in the Bindass online series The Trip, as well as the Girliyapa debut episode, Why Should Hot Girls Have All the Fun, alongside comedian Amukurajah. She has also appeared in a number of programmes on a variety of platforms. Her Instagram has almost a million followers, and she utilises it to express herself and create amusing stuff.

Dolly Singh

Dolly Singh is a well-known fashion blogger and a social media influencer. She is most known for her role as “Raju ki Mummy” in the video series “Raju ki Mummy Talk Show.” The digital creator recently appeared in the Netflix comedy Bhaag Beanie Bhaag as Kapi Kapadia, the protagonist’s (Swara Bhaskar) best friend.

The digital creator starred as Kapi Kapadia, the protagonist’s (Swara Bhaskar) best friend, in the Netflix comedy Bhaag Beanie Bhaag (2020). She also participated in Modern Love: Mumbai (2022) and made her big-screen debut in Double XL (2022). She has 1.5 million Instagram followers.

Prajakta Koli

Prajakta Koli aka Mostlysane is a popular Indian YouTuber and actor who specialises in comedic videos. Koli’s YouTube channel debuted in February 2015, and she already has over 6 million followers.

She appeared in Dharma Productions’ Jug Jugg Jeeyo earlier this year. Koli appeared in the family drama alongside Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani. In July 2020, Koli will also release Khayali Pulao, a short film about female empowerment in rural Haryana. She debuted as the primary character in the Netflix series Mismatched in November 2020, and the second season was published in 2022.

Shirley Setia

Shirley Setia, a social media phenomenon and singer, made her Bollywood debut in Sabbir Khan’s Nikamma as an actress. Nikamma also starred Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani. The singer has become a household name among young people, and she continues to surprise her fans with her interpretations of classic Bollywood tunes. Shirley Setia, from Auckland, New Zealand, runs a YouTube channel that has garnered a lot of attention and acclaim in a short period of time. Her YouTube channel has around 3 million followers. She currently has over 7.5 million followers on Instagram.

Kusha Kapila

Kusha Kapila began working as a copywriter in May 2014. She then worked as a content developer and digital content director. Kapila rose to prominence with her “South Delhi Girls” video series, which she co-created with Dolly Singh. She was also cast in Karan Johar’s production Ghost, which was aired on Netflix in 2020 and was a horror and suspense thriller in which she portrayed Misha.

She appeared in the online series Masaba Masaba Season 2, presented the comic reality programme Comicstaan, and most recently starred alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Tammanah Bhatia in the film Plan A Plan B. She now has over 2.8 million Instagram followers and over 3 lakh YouTube subscribers.
