Will Smith won an Oscar for his picture King Richard, but it was his slapping of presenter Chris Rock on the stage for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith that became the talk of the show. Several celebrities have spoken out against the event, including Kangana Ranaut.
Since this morning, the videos of the Hollywood star slapping the comedian have gone viral on social media. The incident also caused a schism on the internet. Some praised the actor for standing up for his wife, while others thought that using violence on such a renowned stage as the Oscars was a bad idea.
Kangana Ranaut came to Instagram to defend Will Smith in the thick of the ongoing dispute. On Instagram Stories, she posted a photo of the King Richard actor smacking Chris and offered her support for him. She also said that if she had been in Will’s shoes, she would have done the same.
The Queen actress wrote, “If some idiot used my mom or sister’s illness to make a bunch of fools laugh I would slap him like @willsmith did,” followed by clap emojis. She then continued, “bada** move…hope he comes to my #lockup,” and added a laughing emoji.
Kangana Ranaut is now hosting the reality show Lock Upp, which is produced by Ekta Kapoor. The show, which airs on Alt Balaji and MX Player, has successfully established itself as one of the most popular reality shows on OTT.
Veteran actress Neetu Kapoor too took to social media and slammed Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock on stage. She wasn’t impressed with the actor’s gesture and wrote, “and they say women can never control their emotions.”
Gauahar Khan too criticised the Hollywood actor and wrote, “Oscar Jeet Gaye, par izzat haar gaye (Won an Oscar but lost respect)! Sad about #willsmith attacking a fellow artist , !!! Comedians at risk , #NewAge #Notolerance. Dialogue is everything, on screen and off. #Oscars.”
