It seems that the intervention of Supreme Court about the film Padmavat’s release does not seem to work out as the Gujarat multiplex owners are yet to decide upon release of the film. The Supreme Court has dismissed the bans being put on the film in the states like Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, and UP. Yet, we hear that around 125 multiplex owners are yet to decide about the film. In fact, they are meeting today to decide the release of the film this Monday to take the final call about the screening of the film in the state of Gujarat. A few of the owners are not keen on releasing the movie as they are still feeling the risk of damage to their properties.
Some Gujarat multiplexes in the past have denied to controversial films on screening the Bollywood film as well, which include the Aamir Khan movies like Fana and PK along with the Rahul Dholakia directed a movie called Parzania, which was based on Gujarat riots that had created controversies on the chosen subject during the release time. The Gujarat Multiplex Owners Association that has 125 multiplexes will be discussing the issue and then decide to release or not to release this film in the state. On the other side, we still see the Karni Sena agitating the film in the media.
The film has Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in the lead role, while the movie had witnessed a few changes in it as suggested by the Censor Board, which include its name as well Padmavati. The has been agitated by the Rajput community, and the respective governments in the above states supporting the agitation had made them ban the films in the respective state, which then brought in the Supreme Court. Despite the SC giving a clear verdict, the politics over the film still looms on the movie. Let’s see what the Gujarat Multiplex Owner Association will decide. It will be important as the freedom of expression seems to be at stake.
