Jogira Sara Ra Ra review: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma make this bit funny but outdated script more likeable

Rating: 2.5 stars

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is known for playing serious impactful roles, but he has proved time and again that if given chances, he can excel in comical roles too. And he again gets this opportunity in his latest romantic comedy ‘Jogira Sara Ra Ra’ and he does manage to tickle your funny bones a bit in this formulaic and outdated script.

Set in a small town, the plot revolves around Dimple (Neha Sharma), a rebellious and quite modern lady whose family arranges her marriage with a geeky, socially uncomfortable boy Lallu (Mahaakshay Chakraborty). Dimple is not interested in marrying him. She enlists the services of a matchmaker, Jogi Pratap (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), to come up with a plan to somehow disarrange this arranged marriage, and what happens next is the remainder of the story.

Ghalib Asad Arora’s script follows the old 90’s film formula of comedy of errors, with a hero and heroine who are initially not fond of each other, a hero ka dost whose job is to be with hero 24 hours a day, making fun of a socially awkward nerdy but genuinely loving guy for no reason, and some family members who are suddenly quite modern in thinking and suddenly quite traditional as per the demand of the script.

Despite the above-mentioned obsolete formulaic features, the film manages to keep you captivated on the screen with a few truly humorous bits here and there. And the cast’s performances deserve a lot of credit for it. As expected, Nawazuddin has put up serious effort in shaping his ‘Jogi’ persona, who is not yet ready to marry. His comedic scenes make you chuckle, and his frustration with his family members makes you empathize with him.

Neha Sharma was the biggest surprise in this film for me. She finally gets a part where she can show off her acting skills, and she doesn’t waste it. This is an incredibly strong performance from her. The rest of the actors, including Mahakashay, Sanjay Mishra, and Zarina Wahab, have also done a good job.

Kushan Nandy’s direction is quite average. There’s nothing special about the rest of the technical departments, such as cinematography or production design, but there’s no need for anything special in films like this.

‘Jogira Sara Ra Ra’ is the type of film whose impact on you and how much you appreciate it is determined by your mood before entering the cinema hall. If you’ve had a really good day and are in a really good mood, you might ignore some of the script’s core issues, such as few forced and outdated funny scenes, continuity errors and absurd supporting characters, and enjoy this film a little more, but if you’re not in a really good mood, you might start nit-picking small errors and faults in the script.
