Fact Check: Deepika Padukone Still Part of Kalki 2898 AD Sequel; No On-Set Friction or Work Hour Issues, Shoot Begins in 2026

On June 5, an Instagram post surfaced, suggesting that Deepika Padukone might be dropped from the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD (2024). The claims included that her demands for shorter work hours post-motherhood were allegedly causing issues on set, leading the makers of Kalki 2 to consider reducing or even removing her role. However, Bollywood Hungama has confirmed that these rumors are unfounded and part of a larger effort to portray her as unprofessional.

Clarification from Sources

A source close to the production stated, “How can there be friction on the sets when the film has not even gone on floors? In fact, the shooting begins almost a year from now.” They emphasized that Deepika Padukone is an essential part of Kalki 2898 AD, as the storyline of the first part revolved around her character, and she continues to hold a critical role in the sequel.

Industry Insights

An industry insider commented on the situation, stating, “A narrative is being built that due to her ‘unreasonable’ demands, she is being dropped from films.” The original Instagram post also mentioned that this could negatively impact her career following some project losses. However, the insider pointed out that despite her recent setback with Spirit, she has secured roles in notable films, including an Allu Arjun-Atlee collaboration and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer King. They concluded, “How can an unprofessional actor bag such big-ticket projects?”
