Box Office: Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘IB71’ struggles with Rs. 1.75 crore nett on opening day; ‘The Kerala Story’ maintains it’s dominance with another double digit collection on 2nd Friday

The first day of box office for Vidyut Jammwal’s highly anticipated spy thriller ‘IB71’ was disappointing. According to BoxofficeIndia.com the film only made Rs. 1.75 crore nett on its first day. It’s a small figure, especially for a film with so much going for it. The film checked practically every box to become a fresh surprise hit at the box office after ‘The Kerala Story,’ from the renowned and popular face in the major lead to Indian audiences’ current favourite subject of India’s victory over Pakistan, but it still didn’t manage to attract the audience to the theatres.

Nonetheless, it performed better than Vidyut Jammwal’s previous theatrical release, Khuda Haafiz 2, which opened to barely Rs. 1.25 crore nett on its first day. Based on its low debut, it appears that the film will only receive Rs. 20 crore nett as its lifetime collection.

Helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker  Sankalp Reddy, the film revolves around an Intelligence Bureau officer and 30 agents who are on a top secret mission for ten days before 1971 Indo-Pak war. The plan involves staging a hijack and forcing Pakistan’s hand into blocking East Pakistan’s airspace, which will render their own plan ineffective. The film also stars Suvrat Joshi, Vishal Jethwa.

Meanwhile, ‘The Kerala Story’ continues to do well at the box office as it enters its second week. On the 8th day, the film once again collected in the double digits. The film allegedly made Rs 12.23 crore nett on the eighth day, the same as on the seventh, bringing its total collection to Rs 93.37 crore. Without a doubt, based on its box office performance, the film will surpass the 100 crore mark by this Sunday.
