Bad time for the Yash Raj Films as their latest release – Thugs of Hindostan struggles on the box office. As per reports, the film still has scored around 146 Cr, and is yet to cross the 150 Cr mark. The film was made at a huge budget of around 300 Cr, it will take time for the movie to recover the amount invested in this expensive venture. In fact, the trade pundits and market experts have already declared the film as a debacle, while exhibitors too have lost their money up to 60 per cent of their investments on the big starrer venture. As per the latest reports, the single screen owners are now demanding for compensation.
On the other side, the makers (Yash Raj Films) who have acted the role of distributors claim that the theatre owners have agreed upon the lowest guarantee deal with them considering the fact that the big-budget film would work in their favor but as the tables have turned now they are asking for compensation. The reports further claim that the makers are now approaching the sub-distributors to ask for a refund. The theatre owners are asking for compensation and are hopeful to get from the makers along with Aamir Khan and Big B. They claim that if they do not get the compensation, they might end up shutting down their theatres.
Earlier, we have seen actors like Rajnikanth, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan compensating the distributors failed to perform over the box office. Salman paid for Tubelight while SRK paid for the Imtiaz Ali’s film Jab Sejal Met Harry. Similarly, Rajnikanth also paid for his flop film Lingaa. However, people within the film community have raised their objection against this gesture saying that the same distributors never pay anything when they make huge profits from the stars’ films. Let’s see what really goes with Thugs of Hindostan which was made with high budget and good star cast having Big B, Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaik, Katrina and others, only time will tell. Till then you stay tuned to let you know more about it and others.
