Digital18 Media Issues Public Notice Asserting OMG Franchise Rights Amid ‘Oh My Goddess’ Buzz
The Oh My God franchise is back in the news as we see Digital18 Media Private Limited coming into action. The company has issued a public notice reaffirming its ownership and legal rights over the OMG (Oh My God) franchise, amid growing speculation about the upcoming project Oh My Goddess. Published on January 10, 2026, in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine, the notice warns all parties against developing, marketing, or producing any derivative works, sequels, prequels, or spin-offs related to OMG 2 (2023) without Digital18’s explicit written permission.
The notice explains that Digital18 Media is the successor-in-interest to Viacom18 Media Private Limited’s studios business, following a court-approved Composite Scheme of Arrangement effective November 14, 2024. This transition grants Digital18 joint ownership and co-proprietorship of all derivative and franchise rights linked to OMG 2, including its goodwill, brand value, and public association.
The statement strongly cautions “all persons and entities” that any unauthorized communication, development, production, or financing of sequels or related works without Digital18’s consent will be considered an infringement.
It further warns that using titles or promotional materials deceptively similar to OMG could amount to misrepresentation and dilution of proprietary rights. This clarification comes amid reports that OMG 3, reportedly titled Oh My Goddess, is in development, starring Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji. Akshay Kumar is said to have an extended cameo role similar to his screen time in OMG 2. Bollywood Hungama recently reported that Oh My Goddess is scheduled to begin filming in February 2026, fueling speculation about franchise rights and prompting Digital18’s public assertion.
The notice concludes by emphasizing that any unauthorized sequels or branding resembling the OMG franchise will be treated as violations of contractual and intellectual property rights under applicable law.
