Dhritiman Chatterjee is a Hindi and Bengali actor who hails from Calcutta. Besides being an actor, he is also an ad-man, presenter, short filmmaker , and reformer. He was born on 30th May 1945 in Calcutta and did his schooling from St Xavier’s Collegiate School and later went to Presidency College, followed by Delhi School of Economics to finish his master’s program. He started his career in acting with Satyajit Ray’s film called Pratidwandi in the seventies. Most of his acting work has remained in the parallel cinema with movies made on unconventional movies.
He started with Bengali films and some of his early movies in regional cinema include Picnic, Padatik, Jadu Bansha, Akaler Sandhane, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Ganashatru, Agantuk, Sunya Theke Suru, Kahini and 15 Park Avenue to name a few. His recent regional films include Professor Shonku O El Dorado playing Prof. Shonku, Double Feluda playing Dr. Nihar Dutta, Naxal with Shiddhartha Chowdhury, Agantuker Pore (2015), Shajarur Kanta (2015) playing Byomkesh Bakshi and Ek Phaali Rodh playing Dr. Somshankar Roy.
His debut in B Town started with the film Black in 2005 with Big B and Rani Mukherjee. His other Bollywood films include Guru, Ek: The Power of One, Kahaani, Agent Vinod, Kick, Wedding Pullav, Sanam Teri Kasam, Pink and Poorna to name a few. He also acted in English movies, which include The Man Who Knew Infinity, Carnival, Perfumed Garden, Vaisyzyana – a.k.a. Tales of Kama Sutra and Holy Smoke.
