RIP Lata Mangeshkar: PM Modi reaches to pay homage, mortal remains to take for last rites

Today morning began with a sad note as the nation lost its legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. The singer was 92 years old and tested positive of covid-19.
She breathed her last on Sunday morning at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai.

Fans, friends, and Bollywood were devastated by the news of her death. According to reports, Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral will be held at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park with full state honours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also pay his condolences to the late singer in the city.

The vehicle carrying her mortal was seen leaving the residence. It has been completely decked with white flowers and also includes a large portrait of hers. Her casket, too, was draped in tricolour. Photos of Asha Bhosle, Shradha Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan were previously seen on their way to Lata Mangeshkar’s home. Outside the cremation area, fans gathered, and police had to intervene to clear the roads for the ambulance to pass. The “Nightingale of India,” a Bollywood celebrity vocalist recognised to millions, died in a Mumbai hospital after being treated to its intensive care unit in January with Covid-19 symptoms.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal confirmed that PM Modi will be reaching Shivaji Park by 6 PM. “Maharashtra | Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach the funeral ground at around 5:45-6:00pm today, after which #LataMangeshkar Ji’s last rites will be conducted at around 6:15-6:30pm: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal,” ANI’s tweet read.

Along with Bollywood, television celebrities also took to their social handles and expressed their condolences for Lata didi. The late singer is survived by her 3 sisters – Usha Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Meena Khadikar, and brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
