Ponniyin Selvan 2 BO Collection Day 4: The film maintains a strong hold at the box office on fourth day

Mani Ratnam’s epic historical drama Ponniyin Selvan 2 showed strong hold at the box office by minting Rs. 23.35 crore on fourth day Monday according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Now with the fourth day’s collection, this Mani Ratnam’s dream project, which stars Chiyan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Prakash Raj has also crossed the 100cr mark in the domestic market as it’s total Indian box office collection now stands at Rs. 103.75 crores.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 witnessed an occupancy of 58% in Tamil speaking regions of the country on the fourth day, which is a pretty good number for for working day.

The film has also performed admirably at the global box office, crossing the coveted Rs. 200 crore milestone on the fourth day. Lyca Productions, the film’s production house, announced on Twitter that the film had crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark at the international box office.

Interestingly, in just four days, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has already surpassed two of the biggest Tamil hits, “Varisu” and “Beast,” according to cinema trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan.

The epic historical drama, made on a Rs. 250 crore budget, must maintain the same box office hold for another couple of weeks to be considered a hit.  The picture does have the advantage of not competing with any major star releases this month.

“Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2 are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 historical fiction novel of the same name. It narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman (Jayam Ravi), a great southern monarch who rose to become the renowned Chola ruler Rajaraja Chola I.
