TIME recently announced the honorees of the first-ever TIME100 Impact Awards, which honour leaders who have done outstanding work to change the future of their industry and the world at large through continuous effort. Among those leaders including scientists and CEOs, artists and activists, pop stars and politicians, is world renowned actor, producer and philanthropist Deepika Padukone whose recognition was dual-pronged, for films and mental health advocacy.

Deepika joined the likes of Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology in the United Arab Emirates; Ellie Goulding, singer-songwriter and campaigner; Huda Kattan, businesswoman and founder of Huda Beauty; and will.i.am, artist and entrepreneur.
Deepika Padukone has given some of the best performances in Indian cinema over the years, with many of her films receiving critical praise and being among the industry’s highest-grossing blockbusters. She revealed her battle with depression in 2015, and since then, advocacy for mental health has been a significant part of her life.
She also founded the LiveLoveLaugh Foundation that year, which aims to de-stigmatize mental illness and raise awareness.
Padukone’s advocacy work has helped her find balance in her life—and a new sense of success, according to a TIME article. Whereas she once aspired to be Bollywood’s queen, she now prioritises her own mental well-being, working at her own pace and on her own terms. When Padukone now thinks of success, she thinks of one thing—”to live a life as honest and authentically as possible.”
