Dangal got a huge opening in China

Dangal

After breaking several records in India, Aamir Khan’s Dangal first broke the opening day collection record in China as it grossed INR 20 crore, highest for any Indian movie. And now, it has set yet another record by earning INR 72.68 crore in its opening weekend in China which was unheard of- till today! The only film which managed to do good business in China before Dangal was PK which did a business of INR 5.7 crore on its opening day.

Aamir Khan essayed the role of a former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in the film that follows the trail of Phogat’s daughters Geeta and Babita. The movie was helmed by Nitesh Tiwari. Dangal released in China on May 5, across an estimated 7,000 screens while PK had opened to around 3000 screens. Ahead of the release of the movie, Aamir Khan toured Beijing, Shanghai and Changdu to promote his movie.

Although, China’s top cinema operator, Wanda’s (who enjoy a monopoly) decision to screen it in only 37 screens is sure to affect the earnings. Despite that, the film has performed extremely well at the Chinese box office.

Coming to Aamir, he is currently prepping up for his upcoming release Thugs of Hindostan which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Shaikh in the lead roles. Thugs of Hindostan is all set to go on floors from June 1, 2017, and is set to hit the screens during Diwali 2018 weekend. The film will be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame
