Court Grants Interim Relief to Pooja Entertainment in ‘Chunari Chunari’ Rights Dispute With Tips Music
The legal battle between producer Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment and Tips Music has reignited a fierce industry-wide debate over the ownership of film music rights. The dispute erupted after Pooja Entertainment moved the court, alleging that Tips recreated the iconic 1999 track ‘Chunari Chunari’ for the upcoming movie Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai without acquiring the necessary permissions. The track originally featured in the blockbuster Biwi No.1, which was produced by Pooja Entertainment.
In a significant initial development, the court has granted interim protection in favor of Vashu Bhagnani.

Tips Music’s Stance: In a statement shared on social media, Tips Music firmly defended its position, insisting they remain the “lawful owner” of the music rights and labeling Pooja Entertainment’s legal allegations as “malicious.”
Pooja Entertainment’s Response: A legal spokesperson for Vashu Bhagnani countered that all music rights, songs, and intellectual property referenced in the lawsuit are currently bound by the court’s “status quo” order. They maintained that the core issue of lawful ownership or contractual validity cannot be definitively claimed by either side at this stage, as the matter rests strictly under judicial review.
The legal repercussions of this dispute could soon widen. The spokesperson for Pooja Entertainment noted that the film’s actors, director David Dhawan, producers, and key technical crew members may be legally required to appear before the court to file formal responses. Failing to comply with these directives could result in contempt of court proceedings.
“Music companies have generated massive revenues over the decades from rights and investments that originally belonged to film producers,” the spokesperson stated, framing the interim order as a crucial victory for film producers nationwide. They urged independent producers to unite collectively to safeguard their creative assets.
