Coolie No 1: Amazon Demands for an Exclusive Rights for the Film
The lockdown has opened the gates of OTT to release the movies for most of the filmmakers who did not want to wait that long to see the theatres opening up. We saw a number of movies including Sadak 2, Dil Bechara, Gunjan Saxena, Ludo and Lootcase releasing in the various OTT platforms. Now, we see the film Coolie No 1 also releasing on Amazon Prime. Just recently we saw the Akshay Kumar starrer film Laxmii on Disney Plus sizzlingstar. The film did well on the first day getting maximum number of views on the first day, however, it failed to maintain the same views on the second day.
This has alarmed all the OTT platforms to change their plan for getting the films streamed over their mediums. While playing safe, Amazon Prime has now demanded for the complete rights of the film as they are not very sure about the way the film would perform over the OTT platform. Even without watching the film they have quoted this offer to the makers of the film to get the complete rights of the movie, which is now seen as a troublesome thing for the makers.
The failure of the back to back films on the OTT platform, the makers now face new demand for OTT platforms to sell them the rights at the huge amount. As per the Bollywood Hungama portal, the makers and the streaming giant are into discussion as to how they would move ahead with the new demand. The offers coming from Amazon or any other OTT platform vary from one film to the other depending upon the lead actors, the stakeholders and others in the movie. This has even shocked many filmmakers as they have to slash down on their profits, claims the portal.
