Chidiya Trailer: A Heartwarming Tale of Dreams and Small Triumphs in a Mumbai Chawl

Written and directed by Mehran Amrohi, Chidiya follows the touching story of two brothers, Shanu and Bua, who grow up in a cramped Mumbai chawl, dreaming of a life that transcends their surroundings. Their journey begins when they decide to transform an abandoned junkyard into a badminton court, a simple idea that ultimately unites their neighborhood through mischief, hope, and small yet meaningful triumphs.
The film features a talented cast, including Vinay Pathak, Amruta Subhash, Inaamulhaq, and child actors Svar Kamble and Ayush Pathak. Chidiya vividly brings to life a world where simple joys hold immense value. The music for the film is composed by Shailendra Barve, and it will be distributed by Reliance Entertainment.Director Mehran Amrohi describes Chidiya as “a love letter to childhood resilience.” He emphasizes the film’s theme of finding joy in scarcity and how children’s imaginations can turn even the smallest spaces into their own worlds. “Shanu and Bua’s dream may be simple, but it means everything to them,” he notes.
Producer Faqhrul Husaini of Smiley Films shares his enthusiasm, stating, “From the start, we knew Chidiya was something special. It’s not loud or flashy; instead, it celebrates the quiet strength of community and the small victories that make life extraordinary.”Vinay Pathak highlights the film’s essence, saying, “The beauty of Chidiya lies in its simplicity. Sometimes, the most powerful stories emerge from the smallest, most honest moments.
That’s what makes this film resonate. ”Amruta Subhash adds, “Chidiya is about dreaming big in narrow lanes. For me, it was essential to be fully present—no artifice, no acting tricks—just truth. In this film, even silence speaks volumes. ”Chidiya premiered at the Zlín International Film Festival, one of the largest festivals dedicated to children’s films.
Since its debut, the film has garnered recognition, including awards for Best Film and Best Debut Director, and has been selected for various festivals, such as the South Asia IFF in New York and the Cinekid Screening Club in Amsterdam. Thus, Chidiya reminds us that hope can take flight in the most unexpected places. The film is set to release in select cinemas on May 30, 2025.
