Chetan Hansraj Plays Seven Roles in Ramayana, Including Ravana’s Grandfather
The official trailer for the epic saga Ramayana released on July 30 and continues to generate strong buzz online. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the multi-starrer feature boasts a massive cast. Among the ensemble, actor Chetan Hansraj is set to deliver a unique contribution by portraying seven distinct characters in the movie.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the 54-year-old actor confirmed his primary role as Raja Mali. The character is the maternal grandfather of Ravana, played by actor Yash. Hansraj shared that his scenes with Yash carry high visual intensity and praised his co-star’s screen presence. He revealed that after completing his live-action scenes, the makers offered him six additional motion-capture roles. These extra roles include one of Ravana’s brothers along with various demonic characters.
Addressing public critiques and comparisons to Ramanand Sagar’s classic Ramayan television show, Hansraj expressed full confidence in the new film. He highlighted the involvement of top international action directors like Terry Notary and advanced technical teams. Hansraj stated that modern filmmakers aim to deliver a world-class cinematic experience. He believes audiences will move past comparisons once they watch the final product on the big screen.
Ramayana features an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Namit Malhotra produces the project, while legendary composers A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer collaborate on the music score.
The epic story will be released as a two-part cinematic saga. Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to hit Indian theaters on Diwali, November 8, 2026. However, international audiences will get early access to the film on November 6, 2026. The second installment, Ramayana: Part 2, is slated for a Diwali 2027 theatrical release.
