NCB officer Sameer Wankhede booked by CBI under bribery case for allegedly framing SRK’s son Aryan Khan
Sameer Wankhede, the NCB officer who detained Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in an alleged narcotics bust, has been in the news for a number of scandals in recent years. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now lodged a corruption case against Sameer Wankhede, and searches are continuing at his Andheri apartment and other Mumbai locations. The CBI is conducting searches in as many as 29 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, and Kanpur.
According to numerous media sources, the CBI alleges in its FIR that Wankhede and others wanted Rs 25 crore in the Aryan Khan case and received Rs 50 lakh in extortion. Four other people have been named in the same case for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs.25 crore in exchange for “not framing” Aryan Khan in the drugs case.
A number of irregularities were identified during the raid by a special investigating team (SIT) led by deputy director general Sanjay Kumar Singh, which was allegedly formed by the NCB to reassess Sameer Wankhede’s searches. But was unable to find any evidence that Aryan Khan was involved in a larger drug scheme or an international drug trafficking organization.
On October 2, 2021, Aryan Khan was detained in an alleged cocaine bust on the Cordelia cruise liner. On October 28, 2021, the Bombay High Court granted Aryan Khan bail, rejecting NCB’s suspicions of a larger narcotics scheme due to a lack of supporting evidence. The NCB cleared Aryan in May 2022 due to a “lack of sufficient evidence.”
Wankhede, who was the chief of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), when Aryan Khan was arrested in Mumbai, was transferred to the Director General of Taxpayer Services in Chennai, in May last year.
