Queen of Rock n Roll Tina Turner dies at 83

Tina Turner, renowned as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll for her electrifying live performances, died on Wednesday. She was 83 years old at the time.

According to her representative, the renowned singer died quietly at her home in KĂĽsnacht, Switzerland, near Zurich, after a long illness.

In a post on Turner’s Facebook page, her representatives announced her passing away. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” the post read.

Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock in the US state of Tennessee in 1939, began her professional career in the 1950s, but she rose to popularity in the 1960s as part of a pair with her former husband Ike Turner, with singles such as Proud Mary and River Deep – Mountain High. She was physically and emotionally tortured for the first 20 years of her marriage, yet she went on to have a successful solo career after leaving her husband in 1976.

Turner struggled for years after divorcing her husband, launching solo albums and singles that flopped, but she made her comeback in 1984 with the album “Private Dancer.” It went on to become Turner’s most successful record, the pinnacle of a career.

Turner won 12 Grammy Awards, sold over 200 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
