Annabelle Sethupathi Movie Review: Taapsee Pannu & Vijay Sethupathi’s film is another failed attempt of horror comedy

Star Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Vijay Sethupathi, Devadarshini, Yogi Babu, Subbu Panchu, Chetan

Director: Deepak Sundarrajan

Critic Ratings: ⭐⭐1/2

Story:

King  Sethupathi, played by Vijay Sethupathi builds a palace for his would-be wife Annabelle. After several years Annabelle had a rebirth and landed up in the same palace. Interesting? Well not so much.

A cop played by Linga brings Rudra aka Taapsee Pannu and her family played by Raadhika, Rajendra Prasad, and Sunil who are a group of thieves into his grandfather’s place to find out if it is haunted. The story unfolds and we get to know that his great-great-grandfather Kathiresan (Jagapathi Babu), a few other family members, and the palace cook Shanmugam’s spirits are trapped in the palace. The whole film is about why they all died and everything attached to it.

Director:

Even though director and writer Deepak Sundarrajan did a noteworthy job in terms of camerawork and set designing. But we can not overlook the fact that there are a lot of loopholes in the story in terms of direction and writing. Adding comedy in horror is no piece of cake. And Deepak Sundarrajan definitely failed in it.

Performances:

Taapsee Pannu was as usual at her best but it was the poor writing that made her efforts worthless.

Vijay Sethupathi is also wasted in the film. You sometimes wonder why Vijay is even on the screen.

Yogi Babu had however managed to pull the strings and give his best to make us laugh.

Rest everyone was good at their own place. All other actors have tried a lot but the script failed them.

Final words:
Even though the film raised huge expectations because of its trailer in the very early few minutes of the film, you will understand that this is not what you wanted. Thankfully the film is available on Disney plus Hotstar so you have a choice to switch to something else anytime you want.
