Tribute to Sridevi in Mumbai
In October of the previous year, Boney Kapoor and his daughter Janhvi Kapoor inaugurated a chowk in Mumbai dedicated to Sridevi, celebrating her contributions to Indian cinema. The event drew attention from political leaders and industry members, including veteran actress Shabana Azmi. Sridevi, originally named Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, was born in 1963 and is revered for her iconic roles in Hindi classics such as Chandni, Lamhe, Mr. India, Chaalbaaz, Nagina, Sadma, and English Vinglish, among many others. A recipient of the Padma Shri, she also made significant contributions to Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.
Her final film, Mom, earned her the Best Actress National Award posthumously. Tragically, Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai, where she was attending a family function. Boney and Sridevi’s daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, have both followed in their mother’s footsteps, pursuing careers in acting.
