About the series:
The web series is directed by Criminal Justice and Lapachhapi fame director – Vishal Furia, while Vishal Kapoor is the writer of the series. The star cast includes Varun Mitra, Sameer Soni, Ranvir Shorey, Zakir Hussain, Sapna Pabbi, Aahana Kumra and Meiyang Chang who all are seen in the leading and supporting roles. The web series smartly has leveraged the love of Bengalis for football, to portray a powerful story before the digital audience.
Plot:
The web series called #Bombers by ZEE5 is a fantastic tale that deals with a story of a few men who love football and the spirit behind this sport. Against them are powerful politicians who are after their football ground for their own selfish purposes. In the process, the politicians leave no stone unturned to malign the spirits of these young men who risk their lives to save their football stadium. They are hellbent on saving their land against the menacing plans of builders and politicians lobby to build a mall to make huge money, thus killing the aspirations of many youngsters who want to make their life in football. This unfortunate series of events is triggered by a tragic accident which kills the entire Bombers team except for the captain Badol Roy (Varun Mitra). So, what happens is interesting to catch in the further episodes of Bombers.
Review:
The web series somewhere resembles the Bollywood film De Dana Dan Goal with Arshad Warsi and John Abraham who face a similar situation to save their stadium from the greedy builder and politician based in South Hall in the UK, which has a presence of strong Indian community. Talking more about the web series, Bombers is backed with some good performances. Thanks to the presence of good actors like Ranveer Shorey, Zakir Hussain, Anup Soni and Varun Mitra. They have done justice to their given roles. Even the actors in supporting roles like Aahana Kumra along with Sapna Pabbi have done a decent job while playing their roles in the web series.
However, the web series fails in some places, particularly for two big reasons. The first could be, it has room for improvement in terms of tighter plotting. Secondly, you fail to see enough of football in the web series to attract the football crazy fans.
Talking about the other elements like the story and screenplay, they are simple and pretty strong in their right. The scenes come across as realistic and so do the dialogues which charge you up with sentiments for team spirit and sportsmanship. There are moments which will make you say #GoBombers.
Bombers – The Last Word:
In terms of story and content, Bombers is a decent web series. However, in future episodes (if there are any coming up), I hope the pacing of the show is improved and there are more football sequences.
