For Bombay Velvet, all the predictions have simply failed. The movie was considered to be the Magnum opus of Anurag Kashyap, which is produced in a whopping amount of 90 crores. The film was expected to collect at least 10 crores on Day One and many of the media portals and trade pundits were expecting such figure. However, everything fall flat for the people and filmmaker who were expecting something big out of BV. The film simply failed to attract audience despite a good pre-buzz for the film.
The charm of Ranbir Kapoor failed to garner a good business for his recently released movie, unlike the way it did in the case of movies like Besharam and even Roy, which crossed the double digit figure on its first day. As per reports, most of the theaters including single screens and multiplexes were seen doing low business. Thanks to the lower occupancy report, which failed to create positive word of mouth buzz for the film. Yet the filmmakers didn’t lose hope with a meagre collection of 5.40 crores on day as they were expecting a surge in the coming weekend.
Once again, they had to lose heart for seeing the similar collection on Saturday with little of increase on both the days in its first weekend. The other damage came in the form of negative reviews of most of the critics, which together helped in making things bad to worse. Anyway, the first weekend box office report for Bombay Velvet tolled to around 21 crores, which is indeed a big blow to the filmmakers who put huge money in the film.
