Bollywoos stands Firm United Against Censor Board on Udta Punjab Issue
As we see loads of repulsion being faced by the censor board for the upcoming movie Udta Punjab of Anurag Kashyap, more and more B Town celebrities are standing for the film against the board. As per the recent buzz, the filmmaker Karan Johar and Mahesh Bhatt has come forward to speak against the troubles being carried out by the board for the same. They have condemned to the fullest and asked to release the film with the required changes only that are genuine. The film deals with drug abuse in the state, which unveils some bitter truth about the government that has failed in addressing this issue.
In fact, Mahesh Bhatt went on to call Censorship to be the child of fear and the father of ignorance and then questions to the board chief Pahlaj Nihalani whether he is listening. Hansal Mehta who is known to make films like Shahid and others too joined in chorus and castigated the same by saying that how can board be so adamant on a film based on mirror reality, he expressed his anger for the same. He further stated that truth can never defame any state. The cuts and unwanted demand from the censor board is simply under the backdrop of the pressure seen by the NDA government in power in Punjab and since the elections are scheduled in next few months for Punjab such things are obvious to be seen.
Nikhil Advani the popular filmmaker too expressed his anguish on this issue. Actress Soha Ali Khan was also seen commenting on this issue supporting the film and condemning the board. Niranjan Iyengar the popular screenwriter was seen commenting that if the same censorship rule is applied in Indian politics more than 95 percent of politician would stay away. The film has features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in key roles, while the film is supposed to hit on 7th June 2016. Looking at the support garnered for the film, Shahid Kapoor came on Twitter and thanks everyone with tags like #UdtaPunjab #drugsdimaadi #freedomofexpression.
