As we join the celebration for New Year in 2019, it started with bad news of Kader Khan and then we had good news as well of Birthday Celebrations of Vidya Balan and Sonali Bendre. As we left the year 2018 behind to welcome 2019, it would be interesting to get a recap of the past year. We have several hits and misses in 2018. Let’s take a recap of how Bollywood has been this year as under:
All Khans failed in 2018 – The most ironical part of 2018 was the debacle of the Khans. All the leading Khans, be is Aamir Khan, Salman or Shah Rukh Khan, all seemed to have failed miserably. Of all the Khans, Salman was slightly better doing a decent business with his Eid 2018 release called Race 3; otherwise SRK and Aamir were unable to deliver this year. Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan was the biggest flop in his career while SRK’s Zero did an average business not even entered into 100 crores club as yet.
The Highest Grossers – With all the Khans failing to stand, the top grossers were among those stars who have struggling over the box office often. One was Ranbir Kapoor who had faced tough time giving a low collection at the box office for most of his films. Though his film in 2016 ADHM did a decent business his 2018 movie Sanju was a big hit. It scored a mind-blowing collection of around 343 Crores. In fact, the non-Khans movies did well at the box office.
Newbies Set the Trends – The year 2018 has proved that you cannot underestimate the power of the newbies. Certain actors who are simply a few years old in Bollywood were able to give a decent film. Thes include Ranveer Singh with Padmaavat and the recently released Simmba. The other is Alia Bhatt who was apt with her role in Raazi. The others who impressed the audience include Kartik Aaryan, Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Tiger Shroff. All these actors were able to give 100 Crores films to their fans.
The Rise of John Abraham – Though he had some low earning movies like Rocky Handsome, Force 2 and Dishoom but for the actor 2018 was lucky. He gave two big films – one was Parmaanu, and the other was Satyamev Jayate. Both the films were decent grossers and these infused the patriotism feelings among the movie goers.
