Athiya Shetty has revealed she hid her love of acting from her father.

The 22 year old is about to make her Bollywood debut in Salman Khan’s production venture ‘Hero’, but the actress has revealed that growing up she had to hide her passion for acting from her father, actor and producer Suniel Shetty.

During an interview to promote her upcoming film, Athiya said: “I wanted to be an actor since I was little. It has always been my passion and my dream. My father got to know about it much later. I used to do everything hiding in my room, like dancing in front of the mirror and all of that.”

Athiya revealed that the 54 year-old ‘Dhadkan’ star didn’t find out about her secret dream until she broke down in tears and confessed everything at an airport when they were travelling to look at potential universities for the young star to attend.

Athitya continued: “I was going to look at all these colleges in America and we were at Heathrow Airport, London. I got really upset. My father asked me what happened and before I could say anything I started crying and said ‘I want to become an actress’,

“He asked me ‘But why are you crying’, and I said ‘I don’t know what you will think about it’.”

However, Athiya didn’t need to worry about her father’s reaction, as he has been supportive of the star’s dreams.

Athiya said: “He was supportive and positive and suggested me to work hard and enjoy my work. My hobby became my profession and hopefully it will remain a profession after September 11th“.

September 11 is the date that ‘Hero’ is set to release in cinemas. The film, which is a remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 film of the same name, will see Athiya star opposite Sooraj Pancholi, who will also be making his Bollywood debut.
