Govinda Oozes Details On Rejecting Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas

govinda in 6 pack abs in Happy EndingGovinda has been quite in the top stories these days as he recently revealed that he rejected the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Devdas (2002) because of his unwillingness to play a character role.

Govinda has done a number of Bollywood films that has transformed him into a super star, building quite a strong base for him in Bollywood. Some of his films, including Dulhe Raja, Hero No 1, Coolie No1 and many more, still remain fresh in the audience’s mind.

However, in his decades long career, Govinda has also kept rejecting several films that went on to become massive hits on the silver screen and gave a real boost to the careers of many actors.

One of these was the 2002 film Devdas. As learnt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director of Devdas had offered Govinda to play the role of Chunni Lal for the film. However, he refused the offer as he didn’t wish to play a side role at that time. Chunni Lal, friend of Devdas in the film, was later played by Jackie Shroff.

The actor recently opened up on his opting out of Devdas in an interview with India TV, saying, “I asked Sanjay aapko mere mein Chunni Lal kaha dikhta hai? I was a superstar at that time. Mujhe laga theek hai, aap top ke director ho, achchhi baat hai, par aap mujhe character role kyu de rahe hai. Maine kaha ek kaam karna, Shah Rukh se kaho ki woh mujhe kahe. I can do the film for friendship but I won’t do it otherwise. I won’t do the film because you are a star or a top director. I love Shah Rukh a lot. We haven’t done a film together but he is a very nice person.”

However, his refusal for Devdas didn’t affect his career as his four films released in 2002, the same year when Devdas hit the 70mm and was a huge hit. These films included- Pyaar Diwana sizzlinga Hai, Akhiyon Se Goli Maare, Waah! Tera Kya Kehna and Chalo Ishq Ladaaye.
