Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar admitted to ICU after testing positive for Covid-19

Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. She is in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Rachana Shah, her niece, verified the news to ANI and stated that she is experiencing moderate symptoms.

Lata had already been brought to the hospital in September 2019 due to breathing concerns. “Lata didi suffered from a viral chest infection so we got her to the hospital. But now, she is on a path of recovery. Thank you for your concern,” Rachana had said in a statement at the time.

The 92-year-old artist has sang in over 1,000 Hindi films across multiple languages. Among her many awards are three National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Bharat Ratna.

Lata Mangeshkar took to Twitter last month to mark the 80th anniversary of her radio debut.

She tweeted in Hindi, “On 16 December 1941, I sang two songs for the first time in the studio for radio after seeking the blessings of my parents. It has been 80 years today. In these 80 years, I have got immense love and blessings from the people. I believe that I will always keep getting your love and blessings.”

The number of Covid-19 cases, especially the Omicron form, has risen dramatically in Mumbai and even in other cities. Suresh Kakani, assistant commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), told PTI that the civic body was prepared to deal with any crisis.
