Bhumi Pednekar talks about the pressure to perform on OTT platforms

Actress Bhumi Pednekar has always attempted to break the barriers of a stereotyped society through her on-screen characters. From playing an overweight wife in Dum Laga Ke Haisha to appearing as a closeted woman in a lavender marriage in Badhaai Do, the girl has taken on many ground-breaking roles in her career. Her characters have always represented the strength of a woman and have deep roots in reality.

Speaking of Bhumi, the Toilet—Ek Prem Katha actress has not only played a variety of characters, but she has also experimented with various modes of distribution, from OTT to big screens.
Her latest release, Govinda Naam Mera, was an OTT exclusive offering that was released on Disney Plus Hotstar on December 9. In a conversation with a news agency, PTI, she stated that OTT brings huge competition.

Here’s what Bhumi Pednekar said:

Explaining her point, Bhumi Pednekar said, “People can easily skip or switch to a different show on streaming platforms if they get bored in the middle. It’s entirely different from watching a movie in a theatre, where the audience stays glued to their seats because they have already paid the ticket fare.”

She further added, “There is an immense pressure to perform on the digital medium, and it’s inexplicable. You must become ‘destructively good’ in order to become an expert in it and gain fans’ love and admiration.”

In addition to Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal and Kiara Advani appear in Govinda Naam Mera. Bhumi is seen as a fierce wife and a self-centred person who only cares about herself, while the rest are like dirt to her. This Shashank Khaitan-directed film is currently available to all Disney Plus Hotstar subscribers.
