Bhooth Bangla Box Office: Priyadarshan Poised to Smash a 16-Year Record with His Career-Best Opening

Bollywood is bracing for its first major fantasy horror-comedy of 2026 as Bhooth Bangla prepares to hit screens. With a powerhouse ensemble led by Akshay Kumar, the film isn’t just expected to be a hit—it is on track to rewrite the record books for director Priyadarshan, potentially delivering his biggest opening day in over a decade and a half.

High Interest and Sky-High Expectations

The reunion of the legendary Akshay Kumar-Priyadarshan duo, supported by comedy veterans like Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani, has ignited massive nostalgia. According to live data from BookMyShow, the film has already garnered 151K interests, signaling a major turnout.

Industry insiders expect Bhooth Bangla to comfortably enter the double-digit club on its first day. Conservative estimates place the opening at around 15 crore, a figure likely to be bolstered by the paid previews scheduled for April 16, 2026.

Breaking a 16-Year-Old Record

To understand the magnitude of this projected opening, one has to look back at Priyadarshan’s filmography. His last collaboration with Akshay, the 2010 film Khatta Meetha, currently holds his record for the highest opening at 7 crore.

Bhooth Bangla is projected to more than double that figure, effectively shattering a record that has stood for 16 years. Furthermore, the film is expected to eventually challenge the lifetime earnings of Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), which remains the director’s highest-grossing film at 49.09 crore.

Current Top 5 Openers for Priyadarshan (Net Collection):

  1. Khatta Meetha (2010): 7 crore
  2. De Dana Dan (2009):13 crore
  3. Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007):88 crore
  4. Billu (2009):78 crore
  5. Bhagam Bhag (2006):43 crore

About the Film

The film arrives in theaters worldwide on April 17, 2026. If the current buzz is any indication, the “Priyadarshan brand of comedy” combined with modern horror elements is exactly what the box office needs to kick off the summer season.
