Son of Sardaar 2 Faces Screen Allocation Challenges Ahead of Release

As Son of Sardaar 2 prepares for its release this weekend, it is currently navigating complex negotiations over screen allocations. PVRInox, acting both as exhibitor and distributor, is pushing to secure all shows on single screens and non-national multiplexes. According to a trade source who spoke to Bollywood Hungama, “PVRInox is demanding all shows from exhibitors who own single and dual-screen properties. It’s an unreasonable demand, and since exhibitors have alternatives, they are caught in a difficult position.”
An exhibitor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their perspective, stating, “PVRInox is both an exhibitor and distributor, but we cannot agree to their demands of securing all four shows on a single screen, especially when other films like Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha are performing well.” This highlights the tension between distributors wanting maximum screen space and exhibitors balancing multiple films that are drawing audiences.
Currently, PVRInox is actively trying to lock down most single screens across India for Son of Sardaar 2, but negotiations remain ongoing. Industry insiders suggest that while this issue is expected to be resolved, the balance of power seems to be shifting in favor of exhibitors rather than distributors. As a result, Son of Sardaar 2 may have to accept sharing showtimes on single screens rather than monopolizing them. This situation reflects broader changes in the film distribution landscape. Today, a movie’s success depends heavily on its initial appeal, often measured by the trailer and early buzz.
With multiple films competing for limited screen time, exhibitors are becoming more cautious about committing too many slots to one title. The evolving dynamics mean that even big releases like Son of Sardaar 2 must be flexible and negotiate screen shares to maximize their reach without alienating theater owners. Thus in summary, the upcoming release faces hurdles in securing exclusive show timings, underscoring the shifting power balance between distributors and exhibitors in the modern film industry.
