For 15 years, the legendary director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has nurtured the dream of filming Bajiraon Mastani. This is a project that is best remembered as a film that was constantly shelved due to several reasons, one of the main ones being the acrimonious fallout in his initially pair, Salman and Aishwariya. What is important now is that the confusion of the past is gone and presently the stage is all set for the making of this movie.
Bajirao Mastani is supposed to be a historical biopic, based on the life of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani, his ladylove. The making of this film has gone through a whole lot of casting changes and yet never really could make it till the finishing line. But finally, Eros International has been finalized to produce the film and the shooting has already started early this year. Bhansali was supposed to embark on this venture before Devdas itself, but somehow things did not work out and the cast could not be decided. After the release of Ram Leela, the pre production of Bajirao Mastani has started. The film has already attained its hype due to it’s much talked about rumors of the cast itself. Initially it was settled that Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone would portray the female leads of the movie. But as it is evident from the trailers, in the lead roles are Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra, who essay the roles of Bajirao and Mastani respectively.
According to sources, Priyanka Chopra has been sweating it out, in order to play the role to perfection and keep herself upbeat with the mood of the film and especially the enthusiasm of Ranveer Singh. Since it is her first period film, this will surely come across as a test for her, as an actor. Unlike Bhansali’s previous films, this movie has elements of comedy along with drama in it. Bajirao Mastani is slated to hit the floors on the 25th of December 2014.
