The comedy film ‘Bad Newz’, featuring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk in leading roles, made an impressive start at the domestic box office, raking in nearly Rs 30 crore during its debut weekend. Over its first two days, ‘Bad Newz’ amassed an outstanding Rs 18.55 crore nett in India. The film kicked off with a strong Rs 8.3 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 10.25 crore on the second day. Sunday’s collections witnessed a slight uptick, with the film estimated to have earned Rs 11 crore nett, as per early estimates from Sacnilk.com.
This brings the film’s current nett total to approximately Rs 29.55 crore.On Sunday, ‘Bad Newz’ recorded a 28.78% occupancy in Hindi-speaking regions, with the evening shows attracting the largest audiences. Internationally, the film has also fared well, grossing an estimated $1.1 million at the North American box office. With additional earnings from other markets, the global box office total is expected to exceed Rs 40 crore. These impressive figures have positioned ‘Bad Newz’ to surpass the collections of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’, which amassed around Rs 21.22 crore at the Indian box office by the end of its second weekend.
The film is directed by Anand Tiwari, the film is a comedy inspired by true events, centering on heteropaternal superfecundation, a reproductive phenomenon where twin children share the same mother but have different biological fathers. The film has just one more week to continue its box office run before the highly anticipated Marvel superhero movie ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ hits theatres next weekend. The third installment of the franchise is anticipated to open with $160 million in North America alone, potentially surpassing ‘Inside Out 2’ as the biggest opening of the year.
