Aryan Khan is held in the same jail as Sanjay Dutt, Ajmal Kasab, Chhota Rajan, and Abu Salem

The bail application of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was denied by a Mumbai court on Friday. The bail applications of co-accused Munmun Dhamecha and Arbaaz Merchant were also denied by the court. They were apprehended on October 3 after a Narcotics Control Bureau operation on a Mumbai-bound cruise ship. Aryan Khan and the other defendants will be held in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail after their bail applications were denied. Aryan Khan will not receive any preferential treatment and will be treated the same as any other prisoner awaiting trial.

The Mumbai Central Prison, also known as Arthur Road Jail, is Mumbai’s largest and oldest prison, having been founded in 1926. The jail, which sits on 2 acres of land, was designated as a central jail in 1972. Despite the fact that the jail was designed to hold 800 inmates, it is frequently stated that it is overcrowded. Eight new barracks were built to the hail in 2021, with the capacity to house 200 more offenders.

Over the course of the year, the jail has seen a number of prominent inmates, including:

Sanjay Dutt: Dutt was imprisoned for his role in the bombings of 1993. He was housed in a high-security cell next to Abu Jundal’s anda cell.

Ajmal Kasab: During the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, he was the only terrorist from Pakistan who was arrested alive. Kasab was hanged at the Yerwada Jail in Pune in November 2012.

Chhota Rajan: He was held in Arthur Road jail for a short time before being transferred to Tihar Jail, where he is currently awaiting trial in nearly seven cases.

Abu Salem: He is a convicted criminal in the 1993 bombing case. After being attacked in Arthur Road Jail by mobster Mustafa Dossa, he was transferred to Taloja prison.

Mustafa Dossa: He was also convicted in the bombing case in 1993. In 2017, he died of heart arrest at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital.

Arun Gawli: In 2012, he was found guilty of murdering Shiv Sena leader and corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar. He was held in Arthur Road Jail for a short time before being transferred to Nagpur Central Prison, where he is serving a life sentence.
