Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar to Premiere at 50th Toronto International Film Festival, Check Poster

Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture, Bandar / Monkey in a Cage, has been officially selected for its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), scheduled from September 4 to 14, 2025. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, the film stars Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra in key roles. This announcement marks the first official reveal of the film’s title and principal cast.
The filmmakers shared the first glimpse of Bobby Deol’s intense look from the film on social media, celebrating the TIFF selection with the caption: “The Story that should not have been told… But is the Official Selection at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Our Film inspired from True Events is Premiering at #tiff50.”Bandar will be featured in TIFF’s Special Presentations programme, which highlights contemporary cinema from around the world.
This prestigious selection is a significant achievement for Indian cinema, underscoring its growing presence on the global stage. Director Anurag Kashyap, renowned for cult hits such as Gangs of WasseypurBlack Friday, and Ugly, is known for his gritty, raw storytelling, which he brings to this new project. Bobby Deol, enjoying a notable career comeback, leads a strong ensemble that includes celebrated actresses Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Sapna Pabbi.

Producer Nikhil Dwivedi, whose previous successes include Veere Di Wedding (2018) and CTRL (2024), continues to champion distinctive and compelling narratives. He is also producing the upcoming fantasy drama Naagin, starring Shraddha Kapoor.The 50th edition of TIFF, presented by Rogers, will showcase films from over 30 countries. Monkey in a Cage joins a star-studded lineup of world premieres and international titles, poised to make a lasting impact at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
