Anurag Kashyap and Acclaimed Filmmakers Team Up for ‘Dug Dug’ India Release on May 8
The internationally acclaimed comedy-mystery satire Dug Dug is finally set to hit Indian theaters on May 8, 2026. Directed by Ritwik Pareek, the film has gained significant momentum with industry heavyweights Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Vasan Bala joining the project as executive producers. Produced by Bottle Rocket Pictures and released in association with Flip Films, the movie arrives in India following a successful global tour of festivals including Toronto (TIFF), Melbourne, and MAMI.
Inspired by real-life events, Dug Dug offers a surreal and humorous look at faith and commercialization in rural India: After a local man passes away in an accident, his motorcycle mysteriously begins to be treated as a deity. Locals believe the bike grants wishes, leading to a strange tradition where devotees offer alcohol to the machine. What begins as a peculiar local belief quickly transforms into a massive, commercialized religious movement.
