Anupam Kher is a known Indian actor, producer, theater person and mentor of Bollywood who has worked in more than 470 movies and 100 plays. Though he usually appears in a number of Bollywood Hindi movies, yet he is seen at time in English movies including the 2013 Oscan winning movie called Silver Linings Playbook, Bend It Like Beckham. He even held the position of Chairman of Censor Board and National School of Drama (NSD). He hails from Shimla wherein he was born and brought in a Kashmiri Pundit family, he did his schooling from DAV Lakkar Bazar, Shimla and later went to NSD for his acting and filmmaking and still is the alumus of this place, while he also did some acting in his early days in Himachal Pradesh University, which people still remember.

Wiki : Anupam Kher did his acting debut with a Hindi movie called Aagman, while got fame from his incredible performance in the movie called Saaransh wherein he played a character of a father who lost his son overuses when his actual age was 28. His performance was appreciated, which gave him a couple of movies. He also entered into the TV world wherein he was seen hosting shows like Sawaal Dus Crore Ka, Lead India and the current one called Anupam Kher Show wherein SRK was invited in his very fist episode as a guest. He is known for carrying out a number of comic roles in different movies and negative character in movies like Karma playing the character of Dr Dang, which gave him critic award at Filmfare.

While doing a number of movies like DDLJ, Chaahat, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein and Veer Zara, he was also seen directing his first movie called Om Jai Jagadish in 2002, which he also produced. He was also seen producing another rmovie called Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara in 2005 wherein he played the lead character of Gandhi, which led him the best actor award. His character of Mumbai Police Commissioner in A Wednesday was highly appreciated by the critics and audience. His other movies like Bride and Prejudice and several other movies from overseas really helped him carve his niche as a versatile actor giving the movie and himself several awards.

Apart from acting the movie, he has written a number of plays as well including Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai. It was directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, which turned out very much popular among the audience. In 2007, he started his own production company with his friend Satish Kaushik called Karol Bagh Production, which produced movie like Tere Sang. Later in the year 2010, he was appointed as the goodwill ambassador for a group called Pratham Education Foundation, known to work in children’s education in India. He even was seen holding the position of Chairman of Indian Censor board. As far as awards and recognition are concerned, he was known to receive a number of awards including the highest national award called Padma Shri for his contribution in Film industry, while two time national award for his movies Daddy and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara. He is married to a fellow actress Kirron Kher in the year 1985 and the couple have one sone called Sikandar Kher.
