Subbu Palaniappan, the head of the member growth and engagement at Amazon Prime in India, has declared that the company is ready to recognize the immense level of potential in bringing the users a wide array of regional content that would also include Amazon’s original programs.

Sensing the demand of strong adoption of multiple regional contents including Malayalam movies and music by users, Amazon Prime is now betting high on the regional selections on its streaming platform. The e-commerce company’s head of Amazon has cleared their intentions on the same.

During an interaction session with media in Kochi, Subbu Palaniappan, mentioned that the company recognizes immense potential in bringing a wide array of exciting regional content including the original content for the users.

He further said, “The entertainment industry in Kerala is great and there is good content. We are seeing strong adoption of Malayalam movies even by a non-Kerala audience. In general, southern languages have seen strong adoption. Therefore, we are focusing on original content in regional languages.”

Last week, Lucifer was the first Malayalam film to earn Rs 200 crores at the box office which began its streaming on Amazon Prime Video within 50 days of its release. The Mohanlal-starrer, directed by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran went as the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.
