Sohail Khan Apologizes for Riding Without Helmet in Mumbai, Cites Claustrophobia

Actor Sohail Khan faced online backlash over the weekend after a video surfaced showing him riding his ₹17 lakh motorcycle on Mumbai’s Bandra roads without a helmet. The clip sparked widespread criticism, with many netizens emphasizing the importance of road safety and the responsibility public figures have to set a good example by following traffic rules.
In response, Sohail took to social media to issue a heartfelt apology and acknowledge his mistake. He admitted that not wearing a helmet was wrong, regardless of his personal discomfort. “I would like to request all bike riders to please wear helmets. I avoid wearing them sometimes as I feel claustrophobic, but that’s no excuse not to wear one,” he wrote.
Sohail shared his long-standing passion for riding, which began with BMX cycles in his childhood. He explained that he usually rides late at night when traffic is light and maintains a slow speed, often accompanied by his car to minimize risk. However, he emphasized that these precautions do not justify breaking the rules. “I assure fellow riders that I will make a genuine effort to overcome my claustrophobia and wear a helmet, so please bear with me,” he added. He also apologized directly to traffic authorities, promising to adhere to all regulations going forward. Sohail saluted riders who wear helmets consistently despite discomfort, stressing that safety must always come first and reiterating, “It is better to be safe than sorry.”
This incident has brought Sohail back into the public eye after a period of relative quiet. The actor largely stepped away from films in recent years, returning briefly in 2017 with Tubelight alongside his brother Salman Khan. Since then, he has stayed off the big screen, making this controversy one of the rare times he has been in the spotlight lately.
